Install the User Manager Package

  • Download the User Manager package for your router’s architecture from the MikroTik website.
  • Upload the .npk file to the router’s files directory.
  • Reboot the router for the package to be installed.

2. Configure the Hotspot

  • Create a new bridge, add your wireless and Ethernet ports to it, and assign an IP address to this bridge.
  • Go to IP > Hotspot, click Hotspot Setup, and select your newly created bridge as the interface.
  • Complete the setup wizard, giving your hotspot a DNS name, and create a local user for testing.
  • In Server Profile, select your hotspot server profile and go to the RADIUS tab to enable Use Radius.
  • In the Hotspot > Server Profile settings, go to the Login tab and enable Cookies and potentially a trial login for initial testing.
  • Configure the hotspot to only allow one connection per MAC address.

3. Configure the RADIUS Server (User Manager)

  • Access the User Manager by visiting http://<hotspot_ip_address>/user man in a web browser.
  • Log in with the default credentials (admin, no password, or a password you create).
  • In the User Manager, add the router using the loopback IP address (127.0.0.1) and the same secret password used in the MikroTik settings.
  • Create new user profiles with specific limitations, such as upload and download speed limits.
  • Create users and assign them to the profiles.

4. Test the Hotspot

  • Connect a device to the hotspot network.
  • The device should be redirected to the hotspot login page.
  • Log in with the credentials of a user you created in the User Manager.
  • Verify that the user is authenticated and can access the internet.
